Homeschool Mother’s Journal | Summer Week 1

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

This is the end of our second week off from school, so we start back next week. <Sigh> We have all been really enjoying the break and the ability to just hang out and do a whole bunch of nothing! The girls have been playing The Sims 3, I have been scrapbooking, and Chaos has been bouncing off the walls because it’s too hot to go outside!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Lots to do today – we’re joining the library summer reading program, joining the local pool, and then going swimming!

My favorite thing this week was…

On Wednesday I walked into the living room from the office and the girls didn’t hear me come in behind them. MOTS was having her turn on The Sims (they set a timer and trade off) and I could hear Hollywood – READING! She had gone and gotten an old Dick + Jane book off the shelf and was reading it out loud to the room. Seriously, it’s the first time she’s ever done that, read alone willingly. She was doing good and I can definitely hear an improvement in her fluency. We still have a long way to go, but it’s nice to see progress.

Things I’m working on…

Schedules and chores and schoolwork, oh my! Summer is a tricky school time anyway with vacations and VBS and camp and, and, and… But I am also trying to be mindful of the fact that we have our house on the market and I don’t want to bring in a big box of books to clutter up the place. Still investigating all of my options, but I am thinking that Tapestry of Grace + the library will be our best bet.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

    3 cheers for Hollywood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    neat photo 🙂

  2. One of the biggest joys of homeschooling has been seeing my son learn to read. We use the Pathways Readers and he loves them! Having your house on the market cannot be easy. I pray that it sells and that you don’t have to keep it on the market for a long time. We are schooling through the summer, but are not going to attend VBS, camps or anything else. I haven’t scrapbooked in a couple of years-I just got so burned out on DT work:/ Are you a paper or digi scrapper? Do you make any cards?

I am a digi-scrapper. I want to learn to make hybrid cards, but am waiting to see if the house sells or if we take it off market before I start dragging supplies out for that!

Thank you for stopping by my blog and lending some encouraging words! I’m always happy to get them 🙂 And I’m LOOOVING the scrap pages! I wish, wish, wish I would just sit down and scrap sometimes but I always put it off!

Talk to me!
