Homeschooling

Yeah, we homeschool.

It was a decision that I made while I was pregnant with my oldest back in 1999. Somehow I just knew it was right for us. And so far, it has worked out really well.

We started out homeschooling when MOTS started kindergarten and we really haven’t looked back.

I have no desire to convert the rest of the free world to the idea that homeschooling is the best and only choice, because I do not believe that it is. I only know that right now, it is the best choice for us. So, please do not feel judged by our decision. I do not see public school as the great evil institution that only harms young impressionable minds. I just feel that for us, right now, homeschooling is a better fit. That’s all. Can we still be friends?

That being said, if you are interested, we use a literature heavy curriculum from Tapestry of Grace. We adore this stuff. Even Mommy is learning new stuff all the time. Not saying it wasn’t presented in school – I just may not have been paying attention. I really like Tapestry because it very closely mirrors The Well-Trained Mind, by Susan Wise Bauer, whose theory of education just really clicked with me. We study history in the order that it actually happened. We also use Teaching Textbooks for Math and R.E.A.L. Science 4 Kids to round everything out.

For the 2011-2012 school year we are working in:

Tapestry of Grace, Year 1 – Journey Through the Ancient World

  1. Happy Little Wonders,

I couldn’t find your email address, so I’m leaving this as a comment:

We loved your quote about Sonlight’s Guarantee on SonlightBlog.com so much that we’d like to use it on our catalog.

Would that be okay with you?

    Please let me know: lholzmann@sonlight.com

Thanks so much! And, again, I apologize for posting this in a comment.
